Reflecting On 2015 & Planning For 2016

When it gets close to the holidays, I like to reflect on my year and start planning for the next one. Did I accomplish all my goals I had set for 2015; what lessons have I learned; was I happy? These are some of the questions I like to ask myself, and it helps me plan what things I need to change or continue doing in the new year. I would like to share with you the goals I had written down for myself in the beginning of 2015. 

The end of 2014 wasn't the best for me. I had just turned 25, and I felt like I was no where near where I wanted to be in life. I am sure most of you in your 20's can relate. Most of my peers I went to school with were either engaged, married, bought a house, or had their dream job. I kept on wondering "should I be settled right now?" It was driving me insane. I realized that 2015 was the year that I needed to work on myself to get into a better mindset, be healthier (both mentally and physically), and just strive for the life I wanted. Now that we are nearing the end of 2015, I can happily say that things started to pick up for me and I am happy for where things are headed.

Here are some of the things I wrote in my planner:

  1. Save more
  2. Re-evaluate your friendships & relationships 
  3. Learn a new skill
  4. Start grad school at Warwick Business School in the UK
  5. Start a fitness blog
  6. Travel to new places

Did I Accomplish These Goals?

Save more I made a conscious effort to put away more money. As I got older, I realized how important it is to have money set aside for a '"rainy day" or build an emergency fund. I have been using You Need A Budget which has drastically changed the way I think about money and saving. 

Re-evaluate your friendships & relationships Making a decision to either keep or remove someone from your life can be difficult, but I have learned this year that your happiness is what's most important. Never settle.

Learn a new skill  Well it took me a while to figure this one out, but I am now working towards my personal training and nutrition certifications. If you follow me on Instagram or read my blog, you know by now that fitness and eating healthy is a part of my lifestyle. Getting these certifications will not only help me with my personal journey, but I will be able to pay it forward and help others live a healthier lifestyle! 

Start grad school at Warwick Business School in the UK It has always been my dream to study abroad in Europe. In Oct. 2014, I had applied for business school at WBS. I was planning to start January 2015. WBS is one of the top business schools in Europe. I wanted an MBA so I could get further in my career as a marketer. Unfortunately, no one told me that most MBA programs requires at least five to six years of business experience. I only had two. So while they said my application was great, they didn't think I had enough experience to contribute to the business program. The admissions lady who helped me during the application process said they would love to re-evaluate my application in another FOUR years! I don't have time for that. After speaking with a couple of people who had their MBA's, I now know it is best to wait a couple of years before going to business school. So I am okay with the outcome. In recent months, my career plans/goals have changed. So, I might not need that MBA. We shall see. 

Start a fitness blog Well, you are looking at it! I created my blog in March 2015 to share my love of fitness and health with my friends, family or just anyone who happens to find my site. In recent months, I have included two more categories: Lifestyle & Beauty. I want to write about the things I love. So fitness, food, beauty and lifestyle are my main topics. It might change; it might not. I am excited to see where this blog will take me. So far, it has landed me amazing opportunities like an Ambassador opportunity with Premier Protein and I have formed amazing friendships with other bloggers. 

Travel to new places Don't laugh, but my first new place was Los Angles, California! I have never been to the West Coast and always wanted to visit. I spent 5 days there and it was AMAZING! I want to go back very soon. I also plan on going to Europe next summer with my BFF. I can't wait for that. I plan to travel to one new city or country at least once a year. Thanks to my budgeting tool YNAB, I am able to do just that.

What's Next in 2016?

I am proud of my achievements this year. I feel confident to continue making improvements in my life and set goals for 2016. How am I building on my goals from this year? Well:

  1. I am going to continue using YNAB and save as much as I can.
  2. I am going to continue to make smart connections with everyone I meet.
  3. Get certified and use it to change the world ( one push up and salad at a time).
  4. Right now, going back to school for my MBA is the furthest thing from my mind.
  5. Continue to blog and post consistently. 
  6. Go to Europe with my friend. 

There's obviously going to be more on my list, but these are some of the top things I want to focus on in 2016.
